Day Surgery
Royston Hospital which is part of the Evolution Healthcare Group is a private surgical hospital located in Hawke’s Bay. The existing hospital site has been home to a surgical services since 1931 – when services were transferred here post the Napier earthquakes.
The standalone building accommodates two state of the art digital operating theatres, on site sterilisation services along with full patient admission and post operative care of same-day procedure patients. This project incorporates a modern design that maximises the use of natural materials and colours with an efficient one-way patient flow through generous light-filled spaces. The new facility follows the trend towards day stay procedures enabled through significant advances in technology and surgical practices. The decrease of lengthy recovery time frames in orthopaedics also provides improved outcomes for patients.

- 2 x Digital operating theatres
- Full sterile services department and stores (SSD)
- 4 x PACU beds
- 6 x Stage II, and III recovery bays
- 3 x Consult Rooms
- Inwards goods and loans storage
- Administration, reception and staff support facilities
- Internal and external building services plant and associated outbuildings
This building is stand-alone without the support of campus infrastructure and in a moderate liquefaction risk area which required specific seismic design. In addition to the standard hospital services, this site accommodates its own medical gases, steam sterilisation services, standby power generation and UPS power supply.
This project successfully supports the growing need for Orthopaedic elective surgery in Hawke’s Bay.
